Chatham 250th

Chalk Art

Created for the inaugural Sidewalk Chalk Festival, this temporary chalk drawing was installed at The Park at Briar Chapel in Pittsboro, North Carolina, as part of the county’s 250th celebration.

For this piece, the concept reflected the celebration of Chatham County’s 250th year. The imagery is based on local references: the lion and tiger were inspired by the Pittsboro-based Carolina Tiger Rescue, the peacocks were a nod to birds living at a farm just down the road from my home, and the magnolia blossoms reflected a tree that is common in the area and also part of my own everyday landscape, with two magnolia trees in my yard.

I was honored that the piece received the prize for Best Chalk Drawing in my age group at the event.
